Vastu (place) Shastra (science) is a philosophy that originated in India around 12,000 years ago and is documented in the Rig Veda. Its purpose lies in integrating design and architecture with human beings following the advice laid down by great sages of the past, who accessed the timeless concepts that govern life. Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian system of architectural design and spatial arrangement.
| It is based on the belief that the physical design and orientation of a building can have a significant impact on the well-being and happiness of its occupants.
According to Vastu, every structure, whether it’s a house, an office, or a temple, should be in harmony with the natural elements and forces of the universe. Vastu considers factors such as the geolocation of the place, the correlation of different energetical fields within a constructed plot based on its specific structure, the placement and functionality of rooms, the positioning of entrances, and negative and positive zones.
When we talk about negative zones, perhaps we should clarify what we mean when we use this concept. In Nature, there is no negativity as something to be avoided; everything has its functionality. Here, we are referring to energetic fields whose essence is to subtract instead of add, but they are just as necessary for a balanced life.
Let’s consider a very simple example: proper waste elimination is necessary for our digestion to function. In this case, waste elimination would be what subtracts, the negative aspect – but without our elimination function working, we couldn’t survive.
| The objective of Vaastu is to create a positive and balanced environment that promotes health, prosperity, and spiritual well-being.
While Vastu is deeply rooted in Indian culture and traditions, with its earliest mentions found in the Vedas (see also the blog entry: Mythology), many people worldwide apply its principles in their homes and workplaces as a way to create a harmonious and peaceful living environment. Many others have benefited solving issues in various areas of their lives simply by harmonizing their spaces through a study of space correction and optimization. Vastu is a universal tool and is not limited to the any specific religious or cultural beliefs.
Mahavastu, a system developed from the principles of Vastu, defines our habitual living or working space as an extension of our inner mind, and has developed techniques to correct and balance existing spaces, providing us with an easy-to-implement tool to manifest our highest potential in life, by correcting and harmonizing our living spaces.
